Irish GAA star Seán Fitzgerald confirmed as new Love Island contestant

The new season of Love Island kicks off on June 1 and will see the Galway footballer swap the pitch for the pursuit of love
The countdown is officially on for the return of Love Island, and this year's series is already shaping up to have a strong Irish flavour with a Galway footballer already confirmed to enter while rumours are swirling for a very prominent Irish influencer who could be heading to the villa as a potential bombshell.
One of the standout names confirmed by producers is Galway GAA footballer Seán Fitzgerald, who is reportedly swapping the pitch for the pursuit of love in the Majorca villa.
The 25-year-old, who has been a key figure in Galway's senior setup in recent seasons, is said to have stepped away from inter-county duties amid growing speculation about his involvement in the ITV2 dating series.
Fitzgerald, who has also built up a strong online following in recent years, with his social media presence and off-field content helping to boost his profile beyond Gaelic football.
His appearance continues a growing trend of athletes crossing over into reality TV, with footballers and sports stars becoming increasingly familiar faces in the Love Island universe.
Alongside the confirmed and rumoured contestants, attention has also turned to influencer Charlene Murphy, who is being widely tipped as a possible late addition or "bombshell" entry.
The Dublin content creator has been heavily linked with the show in recent weeks following reports she is in talks with producers, with her close friend and former islander Lucinda Strafford believed to have encouraged casting interest.
While nothing has been officially confirmed, industry chatter suggests she remains firmly on ITV's radar as producers finalise the line-up ahead of the summer launch.
The new series of Love Island kicks off on Monday June 1 on Virgin Media Two.
