150 bags of litter collected in two hours at Rockmarshall shore

Cooley Peninsula Community Alert joined forces with other amazing volunteers to carry out a large clean up
To mark World Earth Day, Cooley Peninsula Community Alert joined forces with other amazing volunteers to carry out a large clean up in Rockmarshall along the shore on Saturday 20 April.
Along with over 30 volunteers from the Louth Volunteer Centre; volunteers from eBay, the Cross Border Orchestra; as well as the regular committed Peninsula Marine Litter team, carried out the clean up, aided and supported by Aidan Gray from Clean Coasts.
A huge total of over 150 bags of litter were removed in just over two hours, which according to Chairperson of Cooley Peninsula Community Alert, Michael Muckian, was made up from mainly plastic, tins, cans, and bottles, “the usual collected which all appeared washed in from Dundalk Bay”.
Michael said that “it was brilliant to have the volunteers which encompassed so many nationalities present”, and welcomed their passion to give something back to the area.
He praised Olivia and Emma from the Louth Volunteer Centre who supported him in facilitating their volunteers. “The Volunteer Centre provided support for many groups like ours and we were delighted to have them on board.”
Michael said that while the sun came out, “the only disappointment was that more living locally didn't” and that while people travelled from Drogheda and Armagh to join in the clean up, keeping “our coastline clean requires a community effort” and he urges people to join in the upcoming clean ups near them.
