RTÉ has released the trailer for its new drama The Galway Bay Murders starring Longford man James Ó’Quinn.
The TV series will begin on Sunday, November 8 at 9.30pm on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player and stars James as Ronan Feeney along with Kate Mulgrew (StarTrek: Voyager, Orange is the New Black) in the leading role as detective Nora Savage.
The Galway Bay Murders, produced for RTÉ by Two Cities Television (part of STV Studios), AS I AM Productions and Keeper Pictures in co-production with Umedia and in association with ITV Studios, uFund, Coimisiún na Meán and Screen Ireland is one of RTÉ’s flagship dramas of 2026, and highlights RTÉ’s commitment to great local drama.
This year has seen the delivery of 142 hours of original homegrown productions, placing great local drama on the national and international stage, in association with several national and international co-production partners.
The series also stars Colm Meaney (Gangs of London, Star Trek: The Next Generation), John Connors (The Gentlemen, Irish Blood), India Mullen (Normal People, Under Salt Marsh), Cillian O’Sullivan (Daredevil: Born Again, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds), and Jack Rowan (A Town Called Malice, Wreck). The cast also includes Clinton Liberty (House of the Dragon) and Dervla Kirwan (Smother).
Filmed in Conamara, the series is set on the west coast of Ireland and sees seasoned NYPD detective Nora Savage take a career break following a traumatic event and moving to her family home in Galway on an exchange programme with An Garda Síochána.
Expecting a change of pace, Nora is unexpectedly pulled into a murder investigation involving a female climate activist. As she goes head-to-head with a ruthless environmental magnate, putting those closest to her at risk, she is forced to confront her personal demons head on. As the investigation builds to a tense and savage climax, it pushes Nora and the squad into a thrilling hunt for the killer.
The Galway Bay Murders is writer Eithne Verling’s first television drama script and was written specifically for Kate Mulgrew after a chance meeting while the actor was on holiday in Galway.
With themes of power play, control, fanaticism and deception, the drama also explores Traveller culture, a story that was important for Verling to highlight as part of her work with Galway City Museum for over 12 years.
