Do you love to read? Then why not join An Táin Arts Centre’s book club where you can meet other book lovers in a relaxed social setting and discuss the latest read. Meeting on the last Thursday of every month, the book club often has contributions from authors in a relaxed questions and answers settings.

Most recently An Táin Arts Centre were delighted to welcome Alan Lane of Slung Low Theatre Company in Holbeck in Leeds to talk about his pandemic memoir The Club on the Edge of Town.

The next book club meeting will take place upstairs in The Townhouse Bar & Restaurant at 8pm on Thursday 30th November. Members will discuss Stephen King’s latest work, the novella, Elevation.

In Castle Rock, Maine, Scott Carey faces a mysterious illness which causes bizarre effects on his body and makes him rapidly lose weight, even if he appears healthy on the outside. While battling this disease with his trusted doctor, he also tries fixing a dire situation involving a lesbian couple trying to open a restaurant surrounded by a disapproving public.

A riveting, extraordinarily eerie, and moving story about a man whose mysterious affliction brings a small town together—a timely, upbeat tale about finding common ground despite deep-rooted differences.

Mary Claire Cowley, Audience Development Manager at An Táin Arts Centre says: “We started the book club as an online experience at the start of the pandemic, it has now grown and grown with over 250 subscribers, our members get to suggest reads to us and it’s always a really enjoyable evening of discussions in the beautiful setting of The Townhouse.”

An Táin Arts Centre say that you don’t have to have read the book to come along and join in the chat. This book club is aimed at adults, is free to attend but registration is required to participate. Members are encouraged to contact their local library, to obtain a copy of the book, or contact Roe River books. Visit www.antain.ie to register and become a member of the book club.
