A LOCAL family run decorating business have received retention permission for alterations and renovations to their original shopfront.

Brendan Marmion Decorating Centre submitted a retention application to the Louth County Council in 2022 and received permission for their plans almost one year later.

The shop has already received the seal of approval from US President Joe Biden as he visited the store in April.

The shopfront had remained the same for nearly a century however the approval marks a special day for Brendan and his shop saying; “Our shop is on the main street in Dundalk, it is eye-catching and colourful and we wanted to improve our shopfront more and improve our town as it had not been updated in nearly ninety years.”

Explaining more on why the improvements were necessary, Bredan said; “Our street is a hard street at the moment as we have people breaking windows and we do not get guards on the street. It was time for us to put unbreakable glass in and improve our customers' experience.”

Brendan rejoiced at the news of approval as he has put his heart, soul and family into his livelihood explaining; “I had a hard struggle, I left school when I was exactly 13 and I worked in a local shop, I went up the ladder but then it went bust. When this happened I started the paint shop with four young girls and now two of my daughters work here as interior designers.”

Commenting on the full circle moment Brendan explained renovations will begin as soon as possible for him and his family on the shopfront.
