Free Bike Lights for Cyclists

Councillor Marianne Butler says she is delighted to announce the first-ever "Light Up Your Bike!" event in Dundalk, aimed at improving safety and visibility for cyclists in the community. This free bike light giveaway will take place on Wednesday 6 November, from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm near the entrance to O'Fiaich College and DKIT on Hoey's Lane.

Organised in collaboration with Louth County Council's Road Safety Officer, the Road Safety Authority (RSA), the Community Garda, members of the Dundalk Cycling Alliance, the Louth Disability Cycling Club, and Gareth from Cyclopath, the event brings together community members and advocates to highlight the importance of using bike lights for safe and responsible cycling.

"Free bike light events have been happening across Ireland for many years as a reminder that cyclists need to have their lights on 30 minutes after sunset until 30 minutes before sunrise," said Councillor Butler. "We're excited to bring this initiative to Dundalk for the first time, making our roads safer for cyclists and drivers alike."

Cyclists attending the event will receive USB-rechargeable bike lights and other high-visibility items to ensure they are seen clearly on the road during our darker winter evenings.

The Green Party councillor added, "everyone is welcome. We hope to see cyclists of all ages coming down next Wednesday to 'Light Up Your Bike.'For anyone who can't make it or wants any further information, they can always contact me on Instagram or Facebook."
