Dundalk-Carlingford's Cllr Andrea McKevitt welcomed news of expected end date for works at Trinity Close in Carlingford, which was provided at the Dundalk Municipal District November meeting by Director of Service, Mr Ger Murphy.

Louth County Council's response to the flooding was discussed in detail at the Dundalk Municipal District November meeting, with standing orders suspended to allow for a full discussion with the Council executive on the local authority's response.

Councillor McKevitt had asked Mr Muphy at the November meeting, what the next step was for Council tenants in Trinity Close whose homes were affected by the flooding.

The Director of Service gave a very detailed report to the meeting, which would see works completed by the 15 December, providing drying out goes accordingly for tenants affected in Trinity Close.

He advised works involved stripping the houses of damaged skirting boards, floors etc which is currently underway and then kitchens will be sized up and ordered, with a lead in time of four weeks for the replacement kitchens, he added.

In some cases, Mr Murphy advised, heat pumps were not working correctly in a few of the houses. Cllr McKevitt requested that the fixing or replacement of these pumps would be treated as a matter of urgency given the time of year and the cold spells setting in.

Mr Murphy said that over the next few weeks, houses will be drying out and moisture levels monitored, and told the meeting that works are expected to be completed by the 15 December, just in time for Christmas.

Cllr McKevitt, welcomed this news, and thanked the director for this "comprehensive report on the matter". Cllr McKevitt commented that "I know this plan of action will bring great comfort to the tenants in Trinity Close who have been through the mill in recent days.''
