Community Restorative Justice Newry/Armagh a community mediation service, made a visit to the cross-border areas of Newtownhamilton, Crossmaglen and Dundalk recently.

Dundalk-Carlingford's Cllr John Reilly, said he was "delighted" to accompany the delegation on a fact-finding mission of policing in the areas.

The local councillor says the group are now compiling a comprehensive report on the findings of their visit and will be making recommendations on policing going forward to the PSNI and an Garda Siochana.

Cllr Reilly is also a member of the FG Northern Ireland committee and sits on the East Border Region group of councillors who meet regularly, north and south of the border.

"Living close to the border myself, I was delighted to be invited on this trip as I have previously highlighted shortcomings in garda numbers in the Dromad and Hackballscross area," Cllr Reilly commented.

The Fine Gael councillor says that cooperation from the PSNI and an Garda Siochana is at an all-time high, adding that during the visit, Garda Kate Patterson gave a comprehensive briefing on community policing in the Dundalk area.
