Councillor Coffey to defend her Louth County Council seat

Emma Coffey is to defend her seat on the Louth County Council at next year’s Local Elections. The Dundalk-born councillor received the nomination at the recent Dundalk South Fianna Fáil convention held in the Gateway Hotel.
There were three nominations, Ms Coffey, Stephen Egan and Shane McGuinness.
The latter withdrew leaving just two in the contest. While beaten in the vote at a well-attended meeting, it is possible Mr Egan could also be on the ticket.
Among the attendance were former ministers, Dermot Ahern and Seamus Kirk, Senator Erin McGreehan, Dundalk South chairman, Denis Cahalane, and Danny O’Shea, chairman of the Louth Fianna Fail CDC. The meeting was chaired by Senator Niall Blayney.
In thanking delegates, Cllr Coffey paid tribute to Mr Egan for allowing his name to go forward, and also Mr McGuinness for accepting the nomination and said she’s looking forward to working with the Party in her bid for re-election.
Stephen Egan congratulated Cllr Coffey, saying that it was important that these position are contested.
As someone living in Blackrock, he hoped to be selected as a running-mate of Cllr Coffey’s.
Sen McGreehan and Mr Cahalane also offered their congratulations.
Tributes were paid to outgoing councillor, Liam Reilly, for the work he had done for the area since succeeding his father, the late Tommy Reilly.
