Dundalk court: Man (26) stole property from vehicles

A 26-year-old man who stole property from vehicles, has been placed under the supervision of the Probation Service for 12 months.
Darren Crawford with an address at Lios Dubh, Armagh Road, Dundalk, pleaded guilty to theft charges arising from two incidents and to public order offences in a separate matter.
Dundalk district court had previously heard how on March 18th last, following a report of a man causing a nuisance at the Market Square, gardaí viewed the town CCTV cameras and saw the defendant getting into a van belonging to Panama Coffee.
Coins to the value of €14 were taken and the money was found on him, when he was searched by gardaí.
On June 7th last, a car was broken into overnight at the Imperial Hotel and the defendant was seen entering a black Volkswagen Passat from which some change and three bottles of alcohol were missing.
The following day he was spotted acting suspiciously around a vehicle in Lios Dubh.
He was slurring his words and unsteady on his feet and began shouting at gardaí and was asked to move on before being arrested.
The defendant had 11 previous convictions and the Defence solicitor sought a referral to the Probation Service as she said the offending was alcohol fuelled.
She added her client had struggled with addiction and his mental health and was very sorry.Judge Eirinn McKiernan put back the case for a report and last week placed Mr. Crawford under a 12 month Probation supervision bond.
