A 48 year old man who drove at speeds of up to 160kph on the M1, close to an unmarked patrol car before attempting to undertake the garda vehicle, has been convicted of careless driving at Dundalk District Court

Abualmwahib Mekki with an address at Earls Court, Lismullen Grove, Dundalk was originally charged with dangerous driving arising out of the incident on April 20th last year but Judge Eirinn McKiernan was told there was consent to the charge being reduced.

The Judge said she would exercise her discretion and would not disqualify him from driving, after the court was told the defendant is a supervisor in a pharmaceutical company in Dundalk and needs to attend ‘out of hours’ to sign-off on drugs.
