Dundalk man who stole property from unlocked cars jailed

A 21-year-old man who took property from a number of unlocked cars he had entered, was jailed for two months at Dundalk district court last week.
Craig Keenan with an address at Aisling Park, Cox’s Demesne, Dundalk admitted theft and interfering with a stationary car at three different addresses in Cois Farraige, Old Golf Links Road, Blackrock, and one count of stealing a pedal cycle.
Judge Eirinn McKiernan was told last Wednesday that gardaí received a report on August 7th last, that a car had been broken into overnight.
It was then discovered a number of other cars had been entered and a bicycle had also been stolen.
The defendant was arrested at his home where he was found in possession of a lot of the property which included cash, an iPhone and sunglasses.
The court heard the cars were not damaged as they had not been locked.
Mr. Keenan's most recent previous convictions was a two-month sentence for theft handed down on April 19th.
The Defence barrister said his client had been associating with a negative peer group at the time, but while in custody had made ‘good strides’ and he is on a drug-free wing and doing positive work.
Judge McKiernan imposed a four-month sentence on one charge, and suspended the final two months for a year, subject to him engaging with the Probation Service.
