Cllr John Reilly has expressed his frustration over trying to get appropriate answers from Uisce Eireann regarding the construction of a new sewerage connection in the Mount Avenue area.

Cllr Reilly says he was very surprised to find out that a large number of residents in the area have no access to a town sewer.

“I don't think there is any doubt that this is definitely an urban area in the town of Dundalk with still no access to sewerage,” he said.

“I was recently left in a very embarrassing situation when I received confirmation that a property owner would be able to get connected to a new sewerage line that is going to be constructed to accommodate the major housing development in the Mount Avenue area, only to be emailed back three weeks later by Uisce Eireann and told that the house would not be able to connect to the new sewerage line."

Councillor Reilly says he believes it is the appropriate time to sort out the sewage situation in this area once and for all, especially as there is construction happening in the area.

He further added that he thought it is a great opportunity to eliminate these septic tanks in an urban part of the town.

Cllr Reilly stated that he raised this at last month's council meeting and is currently writing to Uisce Eireann to seek an in-person meeting with them
