The woman handed over a knife to gardaí after she was informed she was going to be searched

A woman who handed over a knife to gardaí after she was informed she was going to be searched, has been given a three month suspended sentence at Dundalk district court.

Amanda Boylan with an address at the Simon Community, Barrack Street, Dundalk admitted having a knife or a blade that was sharply pointed at Marshes Lower, Dundalk on August 3rd last.

When Judge Vincent Deane asked, “she's homeless, isn't she?”, the Defence barrister explained that her client has a friend who is willing to take her in as he was “aware of the great efforts she has made to get her life back on track”.

The court heard Ms. Boylan had seven previous convictions.

The legal counsel stressed that the 35 year old is "steady on methadone".

The barrister added the defendant had secured employment in a local sports club as a cleaner.

Judge Deane imposed a three month sentence, which he suspended on Ms Boylan entering a €100 bond to be of good behaviour for two years.
