EIR loses appeal seeking to erect 18m high telecommunications pole outside Dundalk

An Bord Pleanála refuses appeal

An Bord Pleanála has refused and appeal from EIR on the refusal of Louth County Council for planning permission for an 18m high telecommunications monopole at Haggardardstown.

Eircom Limited t/a Eir had applied to Louth County Council in March for planning permission to erect an 18m high telecommunications monopole together with antennas, dishes and associated telecommunications equipment all enclosed by security fencing at the Eir Exchange, at Old Gold Links Road & Dublin Road, Haggardstown, Dundalk.

Louth County Council refused planning permission for the development in April with EIR appealing the decision to An Bord Pleanála in May.

An Bord Pleanála refused the appeal on 23 October. In its decision, An Bord Pleanála said that the development "would have an overbearing impact on the adjoining house to the immediate east and would be visually obtrusive when viewed from the attendant open space of this house."

"The proposed development would have a negative impact on existing residential amenity, would not be in accordance with the 'A1 - Existing Residential' zoning for this site as set out in the Louth County Development Plan 2021-2027 and would, therefore, be contrary to the proper planning and sustainable development of the area."
