€126k for outdoor amenities in Louth

A total of €126,000 has been allocated to Louth as part of funding for forest parks, walking trails and outdoor amenities.
€115,200 has been given for significant upgrade of the access road into Slieve Foy car park above Carlingford village, some €5,760 for signage for Ravensdale, €3,456 for Townley Hall maintenance works and €2,300 for general maintenance of picnic areas and walking trails around Slieve Foye.
The money is part of a Strategic Partnership between the Department of Rural and Community Development and Coillte that is designed to boost rural tourism and local economies.
Louth Fianna Fáil Senator Erin McGreehan has welcomed the funding, saying:
“I’m delighted that Louth is set to receive more than €126,000 for forest parks and walking trails.
“The majority of the funding will go towards significant upgrade of the access road into the hugely popular Slieve Foy car park where people set out to explore the beautiful mountain. This is hugely welcome.
“Louth has beautiful walking and cycling trails for people to enjoy and it’s also hugely beneficial for physical and mental health of those in the community.
“It also helps the local economy as it will entice more visitors to the area.”
She added: “This funding is further proof that Fianna Fáil in Government is delivering for rural communities.”
