17 – 25 August 2024

National Heritage Week, the initiative by the Heritage Council celebrating Ireland’s cultural, built and natural heritage, returns next month, running from 17 – 25 August 2024, with events this year taking place across Louth.

Minister of State for Nature, Heritage and Electoral Reform, Malcolm Noonan, TD, launched the 25th edition of National Heritage Week on 18 July at Connolly station in Dublin, before travelling by steam train to Drogheda and Beaulieu House in Co Louth.

Coordinated by the Heritage Council, National Heritage Week has become one of Ireland’s largest cultural events. This year’s theme, Connections, Routes, and Networks will explore the many ways we are linked through our heritage – from physical pathways like roads, canals, and trails to cultural ties through family, pastimes, history and traditions.

Since the Heritage Council assumed responsibility for National Heritage Week in 2005, it has grown from a small 500 event to almost 2,000 events last year. The Heritage Council assumed the role of coordinator of National Heritage Week from the Department of the Environment, Heritage & Local Government, and since then it has grown into a highly successful programme.

There are many events taking place across Ireland, and Louth, for National Heritage Week. Here are some of the events that will be taking place in Louth this year:
