Figures reveal Drogheda outpacing Dundalk in home completions

Central Statistics Office figures show that the number of home completions in the A92 Drogheda region is vastly outpacing the number of completions in the A91 Dundalk region
Figures just released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) show that the number of homes that have been completed in the A92 eircode region, which relates to Ardee, Drogheda and the south of Louth, as well as parts of Laytown and Bettystown, are vastly outpacing the number completed in the A91 region, which covers Dundalk and surrounding areas in Louth.
Looking at Louth overall, 370 new homes were completed in July, August, and September, the third quarter (Q3), of this year.
This is down on the 476 completed in the second quarter (Q2), but is up on the Q3 of last year, when 325 homes were completed.
1,295 new homes were completed in Louth so far this year, which is up on the 957 completed during the same period last year.
Of the 370 new homes completed in Q3 of this year, 35 were apartments; 302 were part of a multi-unit development or scheme houses; and 33 were single or one off houses.
Breaking down the numbers into eircode routing areas, it can be seen that 177 homes were completed in the A91 Dundalk area in Q3 2026, while 213 were completed in the A92 Drogheda area.
So far this year535 homes were completed in the A91 area, with 835 completed in the A92 area.
Since the beginning of 2024, 1,636 homes were completed in the A91 Dundalk area, while 3,080 were completed in the A92 Drogheda area.
Nationally, there were 10,154 new dwelling completions in Q3 2026, a rise of 10.4% on the same three months of 2025.
Apartment completions in Q3 2026 were 3,464, up 9.8% from Q3 2025. There were 5,163 scheme dwelling completions in Q3 2026, up 13.5% from Q3 2025.
The number of single dwellings completed in Q3 2026 was 1,527, up 2.1% from Q3 2025. More than half of completions (51%) were scheme dwellings, 34% were apartments, and 15% were single dwellings.
Welcoming the latest figures, Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne TD, said: “It is once again greatly encouraging to see record numbers of homes being completed as we approach the end of the year.
“While this progress is encouraging, I am taking nothing for granted, but as a key indicator of where we are at, it demonstrates that our policies are translating into real progress on the ground, delivering more homes and putting keys in people's hands.
“Momentum is strong, but we cannot ease off. As Minister, I will continue to take every action necessary to increase housing supply and build on this progress well into next year and beyond.”
