The Department of Education has confirmed that as of 22 December, 386 Ukrainian pupils are enrolled in schools across Louth.

Out of that figure, 212 of these pupils are attending primary schools while 174 pupils have enrolled in post-primary schools.

Nationally, 13,753 Ukrainian pupils are enrolled in Irish schools; with 8823 attending primary schools and 4930 attending secondary schools .

Commenting on the figures the Department of Education said:

“To assist with the transition of Ukrainian students and their families into Irish schools Regional Education and Language Teams (REALT) continue to operate, hosted by the 16 regional education and training boards around Ireland and staffed by regionally-based education support personnel.

“These teams are ensuring that clear, accessible information flows are in place between schools, local education support services and national support structures in relation to people arriving from Ukraine.”

The Department said they will continue to publish figures on the enrolment of Ukrainian children each month.

Just before Christmas a plan to move a group of around 50 Ukrainians staying at the Crowne Plaza in Dundalk was put on hold by Minister Roderic O'Gorman after protests from the group and local politicians.
