Go ahead given for 183 new homes just outside Dundalk

Large Scale Residential Development

Louth County Council have given the go ahead for a Large-Scale Residential Development (LRD) at Bellfield, Haggardstown, Dundalk, that will see 183 new homes built, along with a creche.

McParland Bros Builders Limited has been granted planning permission for the development that comprises a mix of houses and apartments. 64 houses are in the plans, comprising 48 three bed units and 16 four bed units.

There are 119 apartments/duplex units planned, comprising 21, one bed; 57, two bed; and 41 three bed units across six blocks ranging in height up to six storeys.

The planning permission also provides for items including the provision of associated car parking at surface level via a combination of in-curtilage parking for dwellings and on-street parking for the creche, duplexes and apartments; provision of electric vechicle charging points with associated infrastructure; and the use of existing access from Dublin Road with associated upgrade works to the existing internal access road to facilitate vehicular, pedestrian and cycle access.

LRDs replace the previous Strategic Housing Development (SHD) process where applications went to An Bord Pleanála for determination. They are defined as:

  • the development of 100 or more houses,
  • the development of student accommodation that includes 200 or more bed spaces,
  • both the development of 100 or more houses and of student accommodation, or
  • both the development of student accommodation that includes 200 or more bed spaces and of house
