Graffiti artist to pay compo for damage to train carriages in Louth

A German man who was one of two graffiti artists who caused over €10,000 worth of damage to train carriages was given time at Dundalk district court last week to pay €3,000 in compensation.
Judge Gerry Jones heard Tim Steybe with an address at Kruppstraße 95, Dusseldorf attempted to flee the scene at McBride Train Station, Drogheda on December 12th 2021, and was found trying to conceal himself in the bushes.
He had no previous convictions and the Defence solicitor, who handed in a letter from her client to the court, said that he had been visiting his girlfriend who was residing in Ireland at the time and described it as a completely foolish act.
The solicitor added that the defendant had €500 in court as a token of his remorse, and added he was anxious to avoid a conviction.
The court heard that he had failed to attend Drogheda district court on a previous date, as he was in a plaster cast and was not allowed to fly but the letter handed into court on that occasion was written in German.
The solicitor stressed that he had flown over for the case as soon as possible.
Judge Gerry Jones put back the case to Drogheda district court on December 4th, saying he'd give him until then to pay €3,000 in compensation.
