The issue of people parking on the street close to the town centre for prolonged periods of time in non-pay parking zones was raised by Fianna Fail councillor and Chairman of the Dundalk JPC Sean Kelly at last Wednesday’s public meeting in the Lisdoo.

Councillor Kelly said the issue was particularly prevalent in places like Pearse Park and Seatown.

Speaking after the meeting he said:

“We’ve got a situation arising where you’ve got cars actively blocking driveways.

“I had one case a couple of weeks back where a car was left outside a house for two weeks while people got the 100x bus up to the airport to go on their holidays.

“That is completely not the purpose of those built spaces, they are residential areas at the end of the day and just because they’re close to the town centre doesn’t mean that people can just rock up.

“So I have asked the gardai and the council to work together to come up with some sort of plan that they can put in place to inform people that there is facilities there.

“There’s an all day carpark at Carroll Village for example and they need [to be told] that they shouldn’t be parking in residential areas and they definitely shouldn’t be parking where they are blocking people into their driveways.”
