Aontú have selected Liam Reichenberg as its candidate in the forthcoming local election for Dundalk-Carlingford

Liam Reichenberg, Aontú's candidate in the forthcoming local election for Dundalk-Carlingford, has said he is "passionate about improving the roads network and infrastructure", to help improve safety for all road users in Louth.

Mr Reichenberg, a well known former Imperial Hotel manager and current retail manager, was born in New York to an Irish emigrant from South Armagh and the son of German Jews who escaped the horrors of the holocaust, Liam returned to Ireland at an early age to study before taking up employment in Dundalk where he as worked for over 27 years.

“With a degree in history and politics I have always had a keen interest in current affairs and have been politically active from an early age", said the Aontú candidate. "At University College Dublin, I campaigned on human rights and social justice issues, against political censorship, and for the unity of our country.

He continued: “More recently I have campaigned on issues of education, health care, transportation, the provision of high-speed broadband, and the state of our roads where I live. I would very much welcome the opportunity as your councillor to do the same for all of Dundalk and County Louth.”

“I am a founding member of Aontú, a new and rapidly growing party. Led by Peadar Tóibín TD, Aontú seeks to hold government to account, locally, nationally, and in Europe.”

“I am determined to see the development of neighbourhood centres where we can ensure the provision of education, health, retail, and community services are available.”

“I am passionate about improving the roads network and infrastructure to relieve congestion, support town centre businesses, and improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists.”

“Aontú have for years been demanding a compassionate and common-sense approach to immigration, but the lack of communication, transparency, and consultation with communities is unacceptable.”

Liam concludes, “Accountability and Common Sense are two things that are missing in our society and government. If elected I will work hard for the people to ensure we get the best we can for our communities”

Aontú party leader, Peadar Tóibín TD, is the party’s candidate in the European election. “I am running to platform the bread-and-butter issues being faced by people", he explained.

“We have built a new political movement throughout Ireland, Aontú, that is doing more to hold the political establishment to account than all the other opposition parties put together. If there is no accountability there will be no change,” says Deputy Tóibín.
