Businesses in the Drogheda area have been urged to take steps to prevent pallets, tyres and other materials being taken for bonfires.

An Garda Síochána Louth, in partnership with Louth County Council, visited a number of businesses in the Drogheda area recently as part of an early awareness campaign ahead of Halloween.

Gardaí said that, while it is still early in the year, teenagers are beginning to collect materials such as pallets and tyres which can later be used in bonfires.

During the visits, businesses were reminded of their obligations to ensure that such materials are stored securely and disposed of in a lawful manner.

Gardaí also appealed to business owners across the area to play their part in helping to curb anti-social behaviour in the community.
