An Garda Síochána recorded a number of serious road safety breaches during the recent bank holiday Roads Policing Operation, including a significant speeding offence in Drogheda, as part of a nationwide enforcement effort.

An Garda Síochána conducted an extensive Roads Policing Operation that was in place from 7am on Thursday, 2nd April until 7am this morning Tuesday 7th April.

In Drogheda, a driver was detected travelling at 98km/h in a 60km/h zone on the North Road.

During this period, there were three fatalities on the roads, and five serious injury collisions including an incident in the Hackballscross area of Louth in which a man in his 60s died and a woman in her 20s was taken to hospital.

Nationally, in excess of 175 drivers were detected for intoxicated driving and in excess of 4,000 drivers were detected for speeding during the operation.

An Garda Síochána continues to appeal to all road users to never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs, to slow down and to always choose a speed that is appropriate to the driving conditions, to wear your seatbelt and keep your eyes always on the road.
