Gardaí seize 20kg of cannabis on Laois motorway
The Laois Roads Policing Unit and Laois Drugs Unit stopped a car on the M7
Gardaí have issued a press statement in relation to the seizure of over a quarter a million worth of drugs in Laois on Wednesday.
They said Gardaí attached to Laois Drugs Unit and the Laois Roads Policing Unit, carried out a search of a vehicle on the M7 at Clondouglas, Portlaoise, on Wednesday.
During the course of the search, 20kg of cannabis valued at €280,000 was located in the vehicle.
“The driver of the vehicle, a female in her 20s, was conveyed to Abbeyleix Garda Station where she was detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.
“On Thursday, 5th November, 2026, the female appeared before a sitting of Portlaoise District Court having been charged with an offence under section 15 of the Misuse Drugs Act 1977/84.
“The matter is due to come before the courts again on 22nd February, 2027,” Gardaí stated.
They said “as the matter is now before the courts the Garda Press Office will be making no further comment.”
