“If they leave it anywhere on our premises we’ll not be taking it any further, we just want to have it back.”

The Geraldines GAA club in Haggardstown are appealing for the return of their defibrillator after it was stolen sometime last week.

While it’s hard to say exactly, club Chairman Brian Cafferty believes the incident may have happened last Wednesday.

“We’ve a scoreboard between the two pitches and God forbid anything ever happened, we felt that the best place to have it was there between the two pitches so it was open and anyone could get at it at any stage.

“It’s no use to anyone else because it only works with our unit,” he told the Democrat.

The Club are appealing to anyone who could offer any help in finding it to come forward or for the person who stole the defibrillator to leave it back.

While the financial cost of replacing the unit would be no small burden to any GAA club, the cost of not having the potentially lifesaving piece of equipment could be even greater as Brian recalls:

“We’ve a coach who coaches our underage girls teams and only for a defibrillator in Blackrock a couple of years ago he would have been dead.

“If they leave it anywhere on our premises we’ll not be taking it any further, we just want to have it back.”
