Louth GAA Division 3 Roundup: Stabannon edge ahead of chasing pack

HOLLYWOOD DEVELOPMENTS DIVISION 3A
STABANNON PARNELLS 1-10
WOLFE TONES 2-6
Stabannon Parnells have cut themselves further adrift from the chasing pack with a slender one point win over the Wolfe Tones in Drogheda on Thursday night.
Level now on points with Oliver Plunketts, Parnells started out of the traps to stun the hosts. Harry Butterly’s early goal complemented the departed Louth panelists Seán Reynolds to a 1-4 to 0-2 lead at half time.
However, Parnells would have to fight back the tide when the hosts roared back into the game.
Tones top scorer once again, Rory Taaffe, found the net first from the penalty spot and then fullback Patrick Fanning to really make the visitors sweat before crossing the line with two well-earned points.

NAOMH FIONNBARRA 2-14
GLYDE RANGERS 1-6
Naomh Fionnbarra recorded a comprehensive win over Glyde Rangers in Tallanstown on Friday evening.
Their first victory in four games and second of the season has the Togher based side looking up now rather than down. Michael McArdle scored a first half goal that sent the visitors on their way while Ciarán Markey punished Glyde with some fine place kicking.
Despite an Alan Kirk penalty Rangers would trail 1-10 to 1-2 at the break. With the Finbarrs in full control, they were not going to loosen their grip. Jack Butterly closed out the one sided victory with a late goal.

HOLLYWOOD DEVELOPMENTS DIVISION 3B
ANNAGHMINNON ROVERS 2-12
NAOMH MALACHI 4-16
A first half blitz did the trick for Naomh Malachi over home side Annaghminnon Rovers on Thursday night in Stonetown as four first half goals saw the visitors snare the points on offer.
The win now opens a gap between the sides on the table and importantly for the Mals, allows them to keep pace with league leaders John Mitchels at the top of 3B.
After Matthew Campbell buried the opener, Jason Clarke added a brace to all but seal the contest before veteran Ronan McElroy wrapped up the tie altogether to make it 4-8 to 0-2 at half time.
To be fair to Rovers they quickly put that opening half to one side and fought back through Rory Phelan to give the Mals a second period scare.
With Clarke continuing to keep the visitors scoreboard ticking over however, Dylan Mulholland and substitute Shane Grimes would prove to be mere consolations in the finish.

JOHN MITCHELS 2-13
ST NICHOLAS 0-10
Unbeaten John Mitchels opened up the second round of the league with a nine point win over St. Nicholas side in Ballybailie to make it eight wins from eight. The margin is not a reflection on how close this game was.
The first half was generally evenly matched with the Nicks Hayden Quinn and Lee Kavanagh in good form and clinical in their attacks while Mitchels grew into it as the half progressed with two points from Jake Gillespie, two from Trevor Matthews.
Despite the fightback the visitors would lead 0-8 to 0-7 at half time. A well taken Jamie Durnin goal to begin the first half turned the game in the hosts favour, with Matthews and John Gallagher extending it out further to a four point lead.
The Nicks battled hard in the second half but a strong defensive showing from Shane Crosson and John Bingham, kept Paudi Downey and Conn Sheehan's influence at bay. Gallagher wrapped things up with a late goal and point.
JOHN MITCHELS: David Anderson; James Sands, Emmett Farrell, Aaron Kane; Shane Crosson; John Bingham, Mikey Nulty 0-1; Trevor Matthews 0-4 Aaron Keely; Cathal Corrigan, Kevin Gallagher 0-2, Jamie Durnin 1-0; Robbie Coyle, John Gallagher 1-3, Jake Gillespie 0-3. WESTERNS 1-10
SEAN MCDERMOTTS 0-11
Westerns came back from behind to defeat neighbours Sean McDermotts at Mountrush on Friday night. Sean Martin’s dismissal for the hosts in the second half proved costly for the losers.
Marty Duffy and Kevin McMahon had Aidan Shevlin’s side in a commanding position at half time when they led by five points.
In the second half, James Maguire reeled in the jaded Churchtown men and Killian Crosbie landed the knockout blow in the pulsating fightback.

CUCHULAINN GAELS 2-13
DOWDALLSHILL 0-6
On a nice Friday evening in Omeath with a large crowd watching, Cuchulainn Gaels inflicted Dowdallshill's eighth loss of the Division 3B season.
Gaels started very quickly going 1-4 up before the Dundalk lads registered their first point and with their slow start, there was already no way back for the ‘Hill.
Jamie Molloy scored a well taken goal in the first three minutes.
David Reilly has found excellent form playing at No 6 and tightened up Gaels back line as they led 1-9 to 0-2 at the break.
With Noel Litchfield’s young forward line working well together and putting in some fine scores the result was only going one way. James Sharkey added another Gaels goal in the second half as Cian McDonald gave a man of the match display.
