Louth Leap users invited to bring someone for free this Bank Holiday weekend

Leap +1 allows paying TFI Leap Card customer to bring one person with them on their trip free of charge

Transport for Ireland is inviting Leap card users in Louth to bring someone on participating TFI bus, train or tram services for free this February Bank Holiday weekend.

Leap +1 is a promotion that allows a paying TFI Leap Card customer to bring one person with them on their trip free of charge on participating services during the first weekend in February 2023.

Simply pay your fare using a TFI Leap Card during the new February Bank Holiday Weekend (Saturday 4, Sunday 5 and Monday 6 February 2023), and bring one person with you free of charge on TFI services, including those operated by:

  • Bus Éireann (excluding Expressway)
  • Dublin Bus
  • Go-Ahead Ireland
  • Luas
  • TFI Local Link
  • Iarnród Éireann/Irish Rail
    • DART and Commuter Services on the Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail short hop zone
    • Cork Commuter Network
    • If you have a valid Monthly/Annual ticket on your Leap card you can use it to avail of this promotion on the train services for which your ticket is valid – excluding Cross Border travel

Present your TFI  Leap Card to pay for your journey or validate a pre-loaded ticket journey as normal and bring someone along with you for free.

When boarding a bus, tell the driver the person with you is your +1 and they’ll let them get on-board for free. When travelling on commuter train, DART or Luas use a Leap Card at the validator to touch on and off as normal and simply travel together with your +1 for the duration of your journey.

Train stations will be either staffed or gates will be left open for the period of the promotion to ensure +1s can get through to the platform.

Ticket inspection will continue as normal with the only difference being that a +1 customer can tell the inspector that they are travelling with the TFI Leap Card customer and indicate the card holder with whom they are travelling. This will suffice to allow them to continue to travel.

+1s will need to travel together with the Leap Card customer that they boarded with for the full duration of the journey to ensure they can tell the ticket inspector that they’re together with a paying Leap Card customer.

Leap +1 aims to bring new people onto public transport to sample it as well as rewarding existing public transport users by giving a promotional saving. By bringing new users onboard to sample public transport, TFI are trying to convert them to make the more sustainable transport choice for more of their journeys in the future.
