74% of couples planning their big day are choosing to tie the knot in civil and secular wedding ceremonies, with one Louth venue featuring among the top civil wedding ceremony venues in the country.
The Four Seasons Hotel Carlingford was selected as Ireland’s Best Large Hotel Wedding Venue, at the SaveMyDay.ie Irish Wedding Venue Awards 2024, in the category for venues catering for 100 to 370 guests.
SaveMyDay describes the venue as follows: "Nestled among the beautiful scenery of Carlingford Lough, the Cooley and Mourne Mountains, and only a stone’s throw from the village of Carlingford, the Four Seasons Hotel Carlingford boasts a stunning location of ‘where the mountains meet the sea’ to host both wedding ceremony and reception.
"Say I do in their opulent Summer Suite or during the warmer months with an outdoor ceremony in their beautiful, landscaped gardens and garden gazebo. Licensed to hold civil ceremonies, humanist ceremonies, spiritual ceremonies and civil partnerships, the Four Seasons and its award winning wedding team are honoured to host ceremonies of any scale so that couples can exchange vows in a celebration tailored to their own love story."
With over 750 brides and grooms responding in a recent poll by Ireland’s popular wedding venue platform SaveMyDay.ie, the results show that the popularity in non-religious ceremonies is continuing to rise, including a comparative 7% increase in civil and secular ceremonies. The poll revealed that 16% choose religious ceremonies, a decrease in 4% since the last wedding trends survey. 10% of respondents opt for spiritual ceremonies.
Shell Holden, wedding expert and co-owner of SaveMyDay.ie, comments “As revealed in the SaveMyDay.ie recent poll, there is an increasing preference for civil and secular ceremonies and couples are zeroing in on how they can customise their wedding to make it unique to them, creating a personalised wedding experience with their own stamp on it.
"Given this continuing rise in popularity in non-religious celebrations, there is a wide variety of memorable civil ceremony venues for couples to choose from including all-in-one wedding venues where you can host ceremony, reception and afters all under one roof.”
