The premiere and fair celebrates active ageing and the power of volunteering in Louth

Louth volunteers are set to take centre stage at a free premiere evening in Dundalk.

This free event celebrates active ageing and the power of volunteering in County Louth.

Louth Volunteer Centre said it is delighted to announce the premiere of a new volunteer film celebrating active ageing and community involvement across County Louth.

The premiere will take place as part of the Over 55 & Thriving Volunteer Fair at An Táin Arts Centre, Dundalk, on Wednesday, 23 September, from 6pm to 8:30pm.

This free community event will showcase the many rewarding volunteer opportunities available to people aged 55 and over, while celebrating the invaluable contribution volunteers make to communities throughout County Louth.

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet and speak directly with a wide range of volunteer-involving organisations from across Louth. Information stands will provide details on local volunteering roles, allowing visitors to explore opportunities that match their interests, skills and availability.

The centrepiece of the evening will be the premiere of a special video featuring volunteers from across County Louth.

The film captures personal stories and reflections on what volunteering means to them, highlighting the positive impact that giving time to others can have on individuals, organisations and communities alike.

Following the premiere, attendees will have the opportunity to take part in a panel discussion with volunteers featured in the film, exploring their experiences, motivations and the benefits volunteering has brought to their lives.

The event will also offer a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, with complimentary wine and nibbles available throughout the evening.

Speaking about the event, Kayleigh Mulligan, Manager of Louth Volunteer Centre, said: "Volunteering doesn't have an age limit, and this film proves it.

"Over 55 & Thriving is our way of saying thank you to the people who keep showing up and our invitation to anyone who's ever thought about joining them.

"Whether you've been volunteering for decades or you've always meant to start, this is an evening for you. Come for the film, stay for the conversation and maybe leave as a volunteer."

The Over 55 & Thriving project, including the volunteer video premiere, has been developed with the support of Age Friendly Louth and the SICAP Network of Services for Older People. Both organisations recognise the valuable contribution older people make to communities across County Louth and the important role volunteering plays in supporting active ageing, wellbeing and social inclusion.

Sinead McVerry, Louth Age Friendly Programme Manager, said: "Older people in County Louth have a wealth of skills, life experience and community connections and are an invaluable community resource. “Volunteering is at the heart of the Louth Older People's Council, whose members give their time to attend Age Friendly meetings, events and activities and support the delivery of the Louth Age Friendly Strategy and Programme."

Miriam Finnegan, Louth Local Development, Deputy Social Inclusion Manager, added: "Engaging in volunteering very often brings a renewed sense of purpose and wellbeing to many older adults, and acts as a reminder that their time, experience and kindness remain invaluable."

Louth Volunteer Centre hopes the event will inspire more people aged 55 and over to explore volunteering and discover how their experience, knowledge and talents can make a real difference in their local communities.

Admission is free to Over 55 & Thriving Volunteer Fair on Wednesday, 23 September, 6pm to 8:30pm An Táin Arts Centre, Dundalk,
