Louth's Cllr McKevitt calls for owners to keep dogs on leads

Dundalk Municipal District February meeting
Fianna Fáil Councillor Andrea McKevitt, has called on Louth County Council to run a media campaign to request people to be mindful about keeping their dogs on leads during lambing season.
At February’s Dundalk municipal meeting held in Kilcurry Resource Centre, the Cooley Peninsula based councillor requested that the Council run a media campaign to highlight the dangers of dogs being off their leads at this time of year.
Cllr McKevitt said, "it is a very sensitive time of year for sheep farmers as they approach lambing season and we often see headlines where flocks are attacked by loose dogs, and this has a devastating effect on the farm, it is a family’s livelihood.
"We all love our family pets, but it is important that we are mindful of others while out on walks with our dogs. I am delighted that the Council will begin a social media campaign to highlight the issue.”
