Plaque to commemorate Ireland’s largest jailbreak to be unveiled in Dundalk

Plaque will mark the 1922 escape of 107 IRA prisoners from Dundalk Gaol
On 27th July 1922 some 107 I.R.A. prisoners escaped captivity through a hole in the perimeter wall.
The exit route was created by comrades on the outside with a carefully placed mine on Ardee Road.
This was the largest jailbreak ever to occur in Ireland. Until now many have walked past the spot without knowing the story.
The National Graves Association will unveil a plaque on the Prison wall to commemorate what was a momentous event in Dundalk’s history and indeed in the story of the civil war.
Event details-Sunday 26th July, assemble at The Jockey’s Bar, Anne Street at 14.30.
A parade will follow the piper to the plaque location on Ardee Road.
This event is organised by the National Graves Association and everyone is welcome. No party flags/banners.
