Quay Celtic pulled off a Cup double with this comprehensive 5-0 victory over St Dominics in the Brian McConville Cup, to add to the Clancy Cup win earlier in the season.

League champions St Dominics made a bright start with Kevin McCormack leaving Quay players in his wake as he weaved through their defence but alas he overdid it and lost possession, in the opening minutes.

Gradually Quay Celtic settled and Thomas Daly headed home a free kick from the right wing to put the Point Road side ahead on 14 minutes.

Inside a minute Daly had struck again to extend the lead.

A very quiet Greg Shannon then sprung into life, only to see his shot come back off the upright, with 25 minutes played.

Kevin McCormack made another of his darting midfield runs just before the break, but again no reward. The halftime whistle saw Barry Carr being booked.

Thomas Daly was guilty of a bad miss three minutes into the second period as the Quay surged forward in search of a third score, the pressure finally paid off when they were awarded a penalty on the hour mark.

Killian Rice, the Saints keeper, made a brilliant save, which should have galvanised his team mates, but that man Daly struck again, racing on to a through ball from inside his own half to round the keeper and complete his hat trick, only the 8th player to score a McConville Cup hat trick.

Just before Daly's trio, Stephen Hutchinson was unlucky not to open the Saints account, in the 68th minute.

Both sides emptied their benches and it was Terry Kelly from the Quay who made it 4-0 with ten minutes to go.

In the 90th minute Shawn O'Connor made it 5-0 with a low shot to the far corner to rub salt in the wounds.

This was Quay Celtics 11th win of the Blue ribboned trophy, two behind Muirhevnamor's 13 wins a long standing record.

This was St.Dominics third McConville Cup final having lost all three, they fell to Muirhevnamor 4-2 in 2012, Muirhevnamor 2-1 in 2013 and 5-0 to Quay Celtic this year.

Colm McConville son of Brian McConville presented the McConville Cup to his son Padraig, captain of the winning Quay Celtic team.

League Secretary Gussie Hearty presented Referee Simon Halpenny and his assistants Paul Malone and Patrick White with mementoes of the final.

A big crowd turned up for the final despite Ireland's victory over Scotland which was televised live while the McConville Cup was being played.

Man of the Match was Thomas Daly of Quay Celtic.
