Family and friends gathered in the Lisdoo for a very special night in honour of Private Seán Rooney who was killed while serving with the Defence Forces in South Lebanon a year ago.

A large crowd attended the event which was a celebration of the Dundalk soldier's life.

Friends and army comrades of the late Pte Rooney gathered in Oriel Park on Saturday, December 9th to play a charity match in memory of the soldier.

A team of Private Rooney’s friends faced off against a team of his army comrades (who won 1-0) to battle it out for the inaugural Private Sean Rooney Memorial Charity and raise money in aid of Rainbows Ireland Child and Youth Grief and Loss Support LTD in the process.

Rainbows is a free, voluntary service for children and young people experiencing loss following bereavement and parental separation.

Later that evening people gathered for the post match function in the the Lisdoo Bar & Restaurants with proceeds raised also being donated to Rainbows.
