Tuath Housing say development will increase access to secure, affordable rental housing in Louth

Tuath Housing is set to deliver 24 new Cost Rental homes in Dundalk, providing an important boost to the supply of affordable rental housing in the north-east.

The new homes form part of a wider programme that will see Tuath deliver almost 400 new Cost Rental homes across the country over the coming months. This Dundalk development will include two and three-bed duplexes, offering local households a long-term, secure rental option at rates below the local market average.

Tuath provided its first home in Louth in 2007 and currently manages over 720 homes across the county. Applications for these homes in Dundalk are now live on Tuath’s website: tuathhousing.ie/cost-rental

Demand for Cost Rental housing continues to be strong nationwide. Tuath has delivered 519 Cost Rental homes up to the end of July this year and has received more than 50,000 applications for Cost Rental housing in 2026 to date. The organisation now manages over 2,300 Cost Rental homes across Ireland, making it the country's leading Cost Rental housing provider.

"Our data continues to demonstrate high levels of demand for Cost Rental throughout the country," said Bronagh D'Arcy, Chief Operations Officer with Tuath Housing.

"As middle-income earners continue to be squeezed by high prices and a lack of availability in the private rental market, Cost Rental offers people a home that is secure and more affordable than what they would get elsewhere.

"The 382 Cost Rental homes we will deliver before year-end represent hundreds of individuals and families who will have a secure home in time for Christmas. Cost Rental allows tenants to plan, put down roots and be a part of a community for years to come."

Cost Rental is a not-for-profit form of housing where the rent paid covers the cost of the construction, management and maintenance of the home. Rents are set at a minimum of 25% below local market value. After a six-month probationary period, residents have a tenancy of unlimited duration, dependent on them fulfilling their tenancy obligations.

To be eligible for Cost Rental housing, applicants must have a net household income of less than €66,000 per annum for Dublin or less than €59,000 for elsewhere in the country.

Full eligibility criteria and details of new Cost Rental homes are available on the Tuath Housing website: Cost Rental - Tuath Housing
