Vandalism at the newly refurbished St Helena's Park in Dundalk on Thursday night, which Louth County Council says resulted in over 80% of the park's equipment being vandalised has been condemned, with the local authority closing the park on Friday to allow council staff clean graffiti from the equipment.

Louth County Council shared photos of graffitied equipment on Friday, saying that the park had only been reopened for week after a complete refurbishment, and that the park was remaining closed until 6pm on Friday to allow for the equipment to be cleaned.

Cllr Maeve Yore condemned the vandalism, saying "to say I’m furious is an understatement - Our Staff have worked tirelessly over last few months to upgrade our St Helena’s Park for Everyone to use, enjoy and benefit from. These vandals have destroyed for all of us - if ye have any information please report to Louth County Council or Dundalk Garda Station - it’s not on and someone knows who these vandals are."

Louth County Council has asked that anyone with information relating to this incident is asked to contact either Louth County Council or Dundalk Garda Station.
