Dundalk’s Brigid 1500 got a shout out recently on NBC New York’s St Patrick Day parade coverage when Knockbridge native and sporting broadcaster Tommy Smith informed the station's viewers about the story of the Louth saint.

Introducing a segment on the history of St Brigid which included shots from Dundalk and surrounds and interviews with  Roisin Cotter of the Brigid of Faughart Festival and Dundalk BIDS manager Martin McEligott he explained:

“We have a famous saint in Louth too, the matron saint of Ireland, that’s St Brigid. I come from Knockbridge, she comes from Faughart. I wear the little St Brigid’s Cross because Knockbridge translated into Gaelic means Cnoc Brid, back into English is the Hill of Brigid.
