Win for Golden Twilight at Dundalk Stadium would have topped Lynch celebrations

If there’d been any justice in sport last Friday night, Golden Twilight would have won the 7th race at Dundalk Stadium.

This six-year-old carries the red-and-white colours of All-Ireland footballer, Frank Lynch, whose accountancy practice is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

To mark the occasion FLC sponsored the 1 mile 4 furlong race, the feature on the 8-race card carrying a first prize of just under €13,000.

Golden Twilight has more than paid his way, winning five of 21 races, four of them at Dundalk, and also being placed ten times.

Fine Record

The son of Dawn Approach has helped owner Lynch maintain a fine record at Dundalk.

Prior to the bay gelding’s arrival on the scene, Political Policy was also a prolific winner in the same ownership, most of his successes coming at the local track.

FLC had its entire workforce at the track, and when betting opened there were many of them around the bookies and Tote willing to speculate their hard-earned on the boss’s horse.

They traded at odds around 7/1 in the Ring before taking up their place close to the finish-line.

Golden Twilight was in the vanguard passing the post for the first time and got a cheer, but when it mattered, he was well out of the places.

If his supporters were disappointed, they didn’t show it, one of them – perhaps making her racing debut – remarking, “This is great craic.”

If hardened punters who backed Golden Twilight were perplexed, it was easy to understand why.

The training combination of the Curragh-based Mick Halford and Tracy Collins – responsible for the bay’s preparation – had two in the race, and won with the other one, the favourite, Ceallach.

Away for the racing, FLC had kind words to say to its staff and those who’ve patronised the firm.

In a message carried in the programme it said: “Frank Lynch & Co would like to take the opportunity to thank their dedicated staff, past and present, and loyal clients for their support.

“Without you, our success would not have been possible.”
