A GOAL of €20k has been set for this year’s Kayak for Cancer, with a 320km route of the river Shannon soon to take place.

Kayak for Cancer 2023 is a source-to-sea kayaking expedition to be undertaken by two friends, with the goal of raising €20,000 for the Irish Cancer Society.

Clare native Gavin Sheehan and friend Maccullin Skelly are beginning their 320km trip of the Shannon on April 2, and hope to complete the expedition over one week. The trip will begin in Cavan and finish in Kilrush, Clare.

Like many, Gavin and Mac's families have both been affected by cancer in recent years and it's for this reason they chose the Irish Cancer Society as their fundraising beneficiary.

With a little over 2 weeks to the event, Gavin and Mac are almost 50% of the way to their fundraising goal, and are trying to spread the word as much as possible in the lead up to and during their expedition.

Gavin is originally from Clonlara, but currently living in Bridgetown, Clare. Mac is living and working in Lusk, Co. Dublin. Both men are friends from their university careers and both attended University of Limerick (UL), where they were heavily involved in the UL Kayak Club.
