AN ILLEGAL encampment in Clare was a topic of conversation at the latest Ennis Municipal District council meeting.

The motion, which was submitted by Cllr Clare Colleran-Molloy, aimed to get clarity on an illegal encampment situated on the Kilrush Road.

Padraig McCormaic, senior executive officer, responded by saying that this issue has been ongoing for many years and that currently, there are High Court and Court of Appeal orders in place.

As per Supreme Court judgement, any person who is not part of the one named household or carer on the site, can be removed.

“I wish to advise that reports are being obtained in relation to additional unauthorised occupants at the site,” said Mr McCormaic.

“The housing needs assessment of all occupants is being reviewed and the intention is that the matter will be referred back to the High Court in the coming months to seek Court Orders with regard to the trespass and unauthorised development.

“I can also confirm that as part of this process, notices were issued in recent weeks to a number of occupants on the site in relation to both illegal occupation and further unauthorised developments on the site.”
