IARNROD Eireann is reporting a "major disruption to services" this Sunday with significant delays expected.

In a series of tweets, a spokesperson said emergency services are attending an incident on the line between Ballybrophy and Portlaoise. The line is closed in both directions.

The 10.25 Ennis to Heuston service was cancelled. It has big ramifications for Clare supporters travelling to Dublin for the All-Ireland semi-final with Kilkenny.

"Cork/Limerick/Tralee to Heuston services will not proceed past Ballybrophy until further notice due to an incident on the line. Portlaoise to Heuston Commuter services are operating.

"Trains will terminate in Ballybrophy. Portlaoise to Heuston commuter services will operate," said a spokesperson.

It is not known at this time what the "incident" is but Irish Rail first reported it at around 9.45am this Sunday morning.

The Iarnrod Eireann spokesperson said buses will be sourced if possible but this will take time to arrange.
