First quarter of 2024 saw 66 burglaries recorded in the Clare/Tipperary Garda Division

Burglaries in county Clare for the first three months this year have seen a 50% increase from the same period for 2023.

Between January and March 2024, 66 burglaries were recorded in the Clare/Tipperary Garda Division, a 50% rise from the 44 recorded in the same months last year.

Recorded incidents of thefts from shops have also increased by 8%, rising from 95 in January-March 2023 to 103 in January-March 2024.

Presenting the figures at the Clare Joint Policing Committee this Monday, April 8, Chief Superintendent Aileen Magner for the Clare/Tipperary Garda Division said that "good work" was been done to combat this rise.

She highlighted the recent arrest of an individual who had travelled to Ennis from another county and committed up to seven burglaries.

Burglaries of "permanent structures" such as sheds and garages counted for a "significant number" of the recorded incidents, according to Chief Supt. Magner.

There has been a 13% reduction in the number of recorded thefts from multi-purpose vehicles, and a 2% decrease in other  theft incidents.

The figures, presented by Chief Supt. Magner to the JPC, were taken from the PULSE system and are accurate as of April 2, 2024.
