Pedal to the metal for the Limerick to Kilkee charity cycle

MANY Limerick people have just returned from Kilkee after their summer holidays but a merry band of cyclists will depart the city for the seaside resort in west Clare this Saturday.
The popular event returned better than ever last year after a two year hiatus due to Covid. All funds raised will go to Cliona's Foundation.
Cyclists will depart from outside the Clayton Hotel in Limerick city at around 9.30am this Saturday.
They will make their way out the Dock Road at a leisurely pace and take in the Limerick villages of Mungret village, Clarina, Kildimo, Askeaton and Foynes where they will pause for refreshments at the Flying Boat Museum.
After the break, it is back in the saddle and onto Glin and Tarbert, before taking a breather and inhaling Shannon Estuary air as they go across on the ferry to Kilimer.
You don’t have to be Sean Roche or Stephen Kelly to take part - all ages and levels of cycling experience are welcome.
There will be four support vehicles - car, van, ambulance and bike mechanic - accompanying the cyclist to ensure every eventuality is catered for.
Once they land in Clare, it is onto Kilrush, Moyasta, Lisdeen where they will pause at Keane’s for finger food before making the final jaunt into The Square, Kilkee, where there will be a barbecue in Murphy’s bar for the cyclists to refuel the body and quench their thirsts.
All monies raised will go directly to Cliona's Foundation. The Limerick-based charity provides financial support to the families of seriously sick children - in Clare and around the country - to help with the non-medical costs of caring for their child.
These costs can include but are not limited to accommodation, transport, car-parking, childcare and specialist equipment.
Whatever pains the cyclists feel on Sunday and Monday doesn't even come close to that endured by the boys and girls that Cliona's support.
