PLANS have been submitted to convert a former school building in west Clare into a new community facility.

Querrin NS on the Loop Head peninsula closed during the summer of 2019 due to declining pupil numbers and now permission is being sought to give the premises a new lease of life.

Querrin Schoolhouse Company Limited, which acquired the building following the closure of the school, has lodged a planning application with the local authority.

It is seeking permission for change of use which will see the building being used as a community facility.

According to planning documents, the facility will feature a small business hub, a community kitchen and two community multi-purpose spaces along with the provision for a storage/bicycle shed and car parking.

Submissions and observations can be lodged up to November 8 and it's expected a decision will be made early next year.
