A performance at the Friars’ Gate in aid of Slí Eile, a mental health recovery charity

TWO INTERNATIONAL folk artists will perform in Limerick this February.

Australian Folk Artist of The Year 2021, Kris Mizzi, has gathered local and international following, through his constant writing and touring.

Kris has a “voice that moves hearts” according to music producer Paul Samwell-Smith, who has worked with Cat Stevens, The Yardbirds and Carly Simon. “A deceptively gentle storyteller, his songs, like a good book, resonate deeper and deeper each time you listen to it. Simply beautiful”, was Paul’s opinion.

UK born Indie Folk artist Seren Spain will also perform at this benefit gig, “A voice and songwriter you need to hear,” said Australian music Journalist Stuart Coupe of the artist.

Seren recently released her debut single ‘You lost nothing’ with the accompanying music video and an EP due for release shortly.

As part of their UK and Irish tour, Kris Mizzi and Seren Spain will play at the Friars’ Gate Theatre, Kilmallock on Saturday, February 8.

These artists are performing at the Friars’ Gate in aid of Slí Eile, a mental health recovery charity based in north Cork which stands at the centre of this benefit event.

Slí Eile (another way), was set up to provide an alternative recovery option for those who might otherwise have to spend time in psychiatric hospitals.

They approach this recovery path by giving their tenants the opportunity to connect with nature, enjoy the therapeutic benefits of their rural environment and gain structured activities through the Slí Eile social enterprises, the organic farm, community market and bakery.

Slí Eile has three key strategies for helping people: supported community living, real-world social enterprises and personal progression planning .

Events like this not only raise vital funds for the charity and offer people the chance of a great night out but also helps to break down the stigma associated with mental health issues.

The performance takes place Saturday, February 8, at 8pm.

Tickets at €18 are available on the Friar’s Gate theatre website www.friarsgate.ie or contact the theatre at 06398727 or [email protected] or at Sarsfield Street, Kilmallock, Co. Limerick V35 VY92
