Betting firm reveals plans to move units in Limerick

IRISH betting firm Boyle Sports is planning to move its Limerick premises in Castletroy.
Representatives of the company, which is headquartered in Dundalk, Co Louth, have announced their intention to apply to Limerick City and County Council for permission to relocate.
According to a planning notice, published in last weekend’s Limerick Leader, Boyle Sports plans to close its existing Castletroy outlet at The Orchard in the suburb, beside the Kilmurry Roundabout.
If these plans are then approved, it would move to a vacant unit in the neighbouring Castletroy Court neighbourhood centre.
This centre is currently home to a restaurant, hair-salon, off-licence, pharmacy and dry cleaners.
Representatives of Boyle Sports have a fortnight to formally lodge papers with Limerick City and County Council planners who will then set a decision date for deciding on the move.
Boyle Sports has 13 outlets across Limerick, including branches in Kilmallock, Newcastle West, Rathkeale, Adare, Oola as well as a number in Limerick city centre.
Earlier this summer, the firm revealed plans to move one of these branches - at Wolfe Tone Street.
It wants to relocate from a small unit in this street across the road to the former Dan Reddan’s/ O’Dwyer’s Pub.
This has lain idle since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.
In May 2021, the pub’s owner Anthony O’Dwyer announced it would not be re-opening due to “tough trading conditions” in the city.
