COUNCIL is to investigate introducing bus stops in the vicinity of a popular public park on the northside.

With a number of new estates built off Condell Road, it’s widely expected bus services will be provided for the area.

At this month’s metropolitan meeting, Fianna Fail councillor Kieran O’Hanlon said he wants bus stops introduced now in the vicinity of Ted Russell Park.

This would come in readiness for these scheduled services.

Council bosses will now carry out a feasibility study of introducing bus stops in the area.

Cllr O’Hanlon believes it could also help alleviate the traffic issues along North Circular Road.

“At present, there are 600 students in Villiers. Some of them are boarders. But a lot attend on a daily basis. It requires buses to go down the North Circular Road which is a narrow road with a lot of parking of cars in the front of the area,” he added.

Instead, he believes students could alight at Condell Road and walk through Ted Russell Park to school.

Cllr Conor Sheehan, Labour, seconded a motion put forward by Cllr O’Hanlon, calling for the introduction of the bus stops.

He added he wants to see a bus stop at Barrington’s Pier.

Last year, Cllr Olivia O’Sullivan logged a request with National Transport Agency for the extra bus stops.
