Calls to reinstate post box in Limerick village

A CAMPAIGN has been launched urging An Post to reinstate the post box that once stood proudly on Main Street in Castleconnell, Limerick.
The post box was removed earlier this year following the relocation of the local post office to the Castleview shopping centre, leaving residents disappointed.
The decision to remove the post box has sparked widespread concern among locals, who relied on the convenience for years.
Senator Paul Gavan, himself a resident of Castleconnell, expressed his disappointment and frustration, highlighting the box's significant role in attracting footfall and contributing to the vitality of the village centre.
“Like others, I welcomed the retention of the post office in our village under new management and in a new location,” Senator Gavan stated.
“However, there was absolutely no need for An Post to remove the post box from the centre of our village. That post box used to bring significant numbers of people into the village.
“It was also especially convenient for people going to mass who could post their letters by just taking a few steps across the road,” the Sinn Féin senator added.
Noting that those at An Post worked “especially hard” to ensure the post office was kept in the village, the Senator has written to the postal service, appealing for the restoration of the post box.
