Campaign group secure Oireachtas hearing for petition

THE MID-West Hospital Campaign (MWHC) have secured a House of the Oireachtas hearing today for a petition they launched during the first half of 2022.
The campaign will go before the public petitions committee on Thursday, November 16.
The petition, signed by over 15,000, called for the upgrading of St John’s Hospital Limerick and hospitals in Ennis and Nenagh and for the reopening of these emergency departments (ED).
After much delay and apologies being issued from the chair of the petitions committee, the campaign has finally been invited to attend in person before the committee to make the case for the reopening of EDs.
“On October 23, a new record was set for the number of patients being left on trolleys with 130 patients languishing in corridors waiting for care. It is clearly evident the situation is not improving,” a spokesperson for the MWHC said.
“Sadly, the Mid-West's elected representatives have failed to raise their voices and make their parties take the appropriate action necessary to bring this situation under control.
“On November 16, the public who signed our petition will finally have their day when the MWHC will put on record their support for the reopening of EDs at Ennis, Nenagh and St Johns,” the spokesperson added.
